Some Sufi online events, July 2020

Hello everyone. Wishing you well. Since the list of online activities is so long and laborate, I made a list for my local Mid-Atlantic Region of the US. I thought others of you might find it useful as well, though it is also long and elaborate. Please be careful because all the times are EDT.

Blessings,

Jami

Washington, DC

Be well.

July has a huge number of Sufi offerings on Zoom, because of all the retreats and workshops offered as part of the Zenith Camp, usually held in Switzerland. If your schedule allows it you could easily devote an entire two weeks to these. The web page of inayatiorder.org lists the camp and other main events, right on the home page, so be sure to check with that. Be sure to also check “Programs” and then “Inayati Digital Program Calendar,” which often gives the links. This page below is mostly a list of those activities.

Special Offering as part of the Zenith Camp:

A 3-Day Silent Weekend Retreat with Pir Zia

July 24 to 26, 8:45 AM to 3:30 PM EDT
Sliding scale roughly $150 to $200 ($100 students or unemployed)
See Zenith Camp on home page of inayatiorder.org

“To awaken to the harmony of the spheres within is to awaken to the fullness of our divinely established primal nature, and to be quickened in the fulfillment of our life’s purpose. In this silent retreat, Pir Zia will lead a silent journey through the stations of spiritual alchemy, traversing the interior landscapes that stretch from the obscurity of the unexamined life to the “fragrant gold” of the soul’s self-realization. Meditation, invocation, and sacred music will interlace to evoke ever subtler and vaster domains of being.”

This is part of the Zenith Camp. If you haven’t done an online retreat, let me recommend that you do it as thoroughly as is feasible. Figure out your food ahead of time, prepare your space, eliminate the interruptions. The timing is designed to work in Europe as well in the US, and I’d expect the retreat to be in 3 languages, which Zoom can handle.

From inayatiorder.org home page and programs page:

Zenith Summer Camp: “The Universe is a Phenomenon of Love“

July 17 - August 9. This camp includes about 10 seminars to choose from.

Those of you who are not busy could put together quite a program. Just as an example, my own plan is to attend Pir Zia’s 3 day retreat, Suhrawardi’s 3 morning sessions of 1 1/2 hours each called “Sounding Your Note,” Zumurrud’s 4 morning sessions on the Names of God, and then the one day retreat with Taj that’s on Aug. 1 (and independent of the camp).

Each event seems to cost between $100 and $200 on a sliding scale. So the 3 day retreats seem underpriced, while the shorter workshops seem overpriced. If an activity seems too expensive ask to pay the student rate or else ask for a special arrangement. Please don’t skip anything because of the price. Bargain with them. And it takes a while to go through all the program descriptions.

  • Pir Zia’s 3-day retreat, 7/24 - 7/26, listed above.
  • “The Freedom of What If,” with Pir Zia, Mirza, Zuleikha and 3 others, 7/17 - 7/19
  • “Awakening the Heart,” group retreat with Malik Hirschberg & Batin Hermes, 7/20 - 7/23 (in English?)
  • “Sounding Your Note,” with Suhrawardi, on 5 Monday mornings, 9-10:30 AM EDT, 7/20 - 8/17
  • “Prayer from the Heart,” weekly workshop with Alia Arnesen, 7/22 - 8/5 in (English?)
  • “Strolling in the Garden of Love,” on the Names of God, with Zumurrud Butta (in English?), 4 mornings 7/20 - 7/23.
  • “Gifts of Conscious Eldering,” a retreat with Saki Lee, 7/30 to 8/2
  • “Tuning to the Infinite,” Young Adults Retreat with Gulrukh and Jacob, 7/3-8/2
  • “Women’s Circle,” 7/27 – 7/30
  • “Call of the Heart,” Zikr with Zuleikha, 8/3-8/6, 4 afternoons
