Greetings of peace and blessings. It is with heavy heart that I inform you that Mikail Davenport, our dear beloved friend, companion, collaborator and devoted servant of the Message, passed away peacefully in his sleep Tuesday evening, March 9. As many of you may know, Mikail endured the challenge of daily pain from an early childhood condition, yet he never let that become a barrier to his dedication to helping others, enjoying life, and spreading the Message. Service to others was indeed his purpose in life, and he fulfilled it with tireless compassion and grace. The words of Christ in the parable of the talents seem so appropriate here:
“Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things.
Come and share your master’s happiness!” (Matt 25:21)
Those who know Mikail will understand that he will be overjoyed to be put in charge of many things!
Mikail was (is) a dear friend and brother to me, and I miss his presence here greatly. Especially his laughter and joie de vivre! He is now free of suffering and at peace in the embrace of his Beloved. Batina and I are in touch with his family and helping with plans for Mikail’s memorial service (to be announced).

Mikail spread his wings of love and service far and wide, with his soft presence, there were no boundaries for his influence in our planetary family. I remember his presence in Europe and at the Abode, going back so many years, with Pir Vilayat’s recordings, on cassette tapes, then CDs. He was always delicately present, often in the background, and still firmly present. My heart warms thinking of him. Thank you, Mikail – you are both missed and present, for those of us here in the UK, in Europe, and in heart-land.

Greetings and blessings to you! Thank you for your response about Mikail’s passing. Were you perhaps thinking of Mikhail Horowitz, who traveled with Pir Vikayat and recorded his seminars? As far as I know, his dervish soul is still alive and kicking on this planet! The beloved who passed was Mikail Davenport, who lived in Texas and serves the Message in so many ways. You may recognize him as the author of the curriculum on Adab. I hope you are doing well, dear friend!

Mikail Davenport was with us only recently, very recently at the Race and Justice Meeting. He facilitated the
meeting with his usual enthusiasm and love of humanity. Mikail sent the daily
confraternity meditations - what a blessing he gave us and here is a quote from the one he sent on 3/6
“The world is a dome, where every action is the echo of another. Do good: it will come back; if not from one person, it will come from another. That is the echo. You do not know from which side it will come. It will come a hundredfold more than you give.”
Thank you for letting us all know of Mikail’s passing. He was a spirit unlike any other.
While in Seattle as Executive Director of the Sufi Order, he was instrumental in the creation of the first S.O. men’s group. He, along with several unindicted co-conspirators, christened this group of wildly different personalities: “J.W. S.O.W.S.”

I remember Mikail as a Being of Service, especially with two projects he kept dear to his heart: the work with prisoners and introducing them to the works of Pir O Murshid Inayat Khan, and the Pir Vilayat Legacy project. Murshid’s words of contemplation in the Burial sermon of the Universal Worship are meaningful to me: “If ye Knew how the wounded are healed, and what freedom the soul experiences…” May your light increase Mikail as you continue on in the caravan of angels.
Ya Salaam dear brother. Your warmth, your earnest adab, your kindness and enthusiasm, your courage and mastery show you to be a model knight of purity. You graciously offered your Adab curriculum (Adab 101) as the basis of the Knighthood Adab curriculum. I will miss you brother.

Mikail was our dear friend, and the dear friend of so many. We remember his warm heart glowing out of his eyes - so many memories… Mikail and Kate, dinners together…Mikail’s book on Ziraat, so clear and beautiful…Mikail gathering clothes for the homeless…Mikail getting books and teachings for inmates in prison…laughter on the lawn…the men’s group…tender words for those who are hurting…such love in one package of life.
We’ll miss you Mikail. They got a good deal when you passed over. Don’t do too much too fast.
