New! Pir Vilayat Inner School

Dear Jamiat Khas and Jamiat Am,

Warm greetings to all! (PLEASE SEE LINK TO PDF BELOW! NOT TO BE MISSED! )

Perhaps you remember being on the top of the mountain at the Abode under the white tent, greyed with use, during an early morning meditation with Pir Vilayat.

They were exquisite moments of purification and being lifted up into realms of light and splendor. The atmosphere was palpable with the Presence of the Divine as we Remembered the oneness of being. The beauty of nature sang all around us , the cacophony of the May birds in chorus , while we shared our Zikrs. Words can never express the incredible sacredness, inner happiness and meaningfulness of these eternal moments.

We shared these soul moments together.

For those of you who did not meet Pir Vilayat, perhaps you have felt his presence in Bawa, or on retreat, or by reading one of his books.

A team of helpers have designed the Pir Vilayat Legacy site which you may have already visited. In the past 2 years an additional site for the Inner school has been developed which includes many of the audio selections of Pir Vilayat’s recorded by our beloved friend Mikail Horowitz. These selections are the Practices which he offered to Murids and to Leaders.

Everlasting gratitude to Karim Updegraff for his magnificent work in developing this site. Please see the P.V. Inner school section attached. Please note the guidelines for use and viewing which Pir Zia and the ETC advise.

Please see below Karim’s sharing of the development of the site and a link to the PDF.

Love , gratitude and blessings,

Naima

A word from Karim:

The Pir Vilayat Inner School Section grew of out the work that started with the Pir Vilayat Legacy website. Several years ago Espabad Babbs mobilized a team of murids to create a public website tribute to beloved Pir Vilayat. Espabad contacted Mikhail Horowitz who provided many audio files and an outline of sections based on his expert knowledge of the material, and his many years working closely with Pir Vilayat. Espabad guided this project through to completion as it became the Pir Vilayat Legacy website, with Mikail Davenport building the website.

When the Legacy website was complete, there remained a large section of audio files that Mikhail had outlined under the title “Practices.” This was more esoteric material that was not intended for public presentation. Naima Brown reviewed the outline of these teachings, along with the Esoteric Training Committee, and a new project was born. Many experienced Pir Vilayat murids volunteered to listen to each audio track and take the notes that now accompany each track. All the while, Espabad continued to push us forward!

The completed Inner School Section now exists in the form a PDF document consisting of transcription notes (and some outline/listening notes) that are hyperlinked to SoundCloud files of Pir Vilayat teachings. The document is completely searchable for key terms.

We hope that this will be a wonderful resource for Leaders and Guides, and we are delighted to see that some of the sections are already being implemented into some teaching modules. Pir Zia has designated that the Inner School Section is intended for murids initiated to the 7th degree, and of course Leaders and Guides may elect to share specific sections with murids.

Originally we had discussed the document being available for download on Teacher’s Corner, but with concern about the level of initiation required to have access to this material, we decided that it might be best to send out the document via the leadership email groups. That gets it out where the resources can be utilized by Leaders and Guides. This is a living document that has grown several times already as the project neared completion. Just this past week 30 additional pages of transcription notes were added that were completed by Suhrawardi Gebel. This brought the completed document to 172 pages. Every effort has been made to standardize spelling and terminology with that currently outlined in the Inayatiyya Leadership Modules. Please let us know about any concerns, mistakes, or misspellings.

Moving forward, as updates or corrections are made, we plan is to keep the most up to date version in a password protected section on the Pir Vilayat Legacy website. This will be a central location where Leadership may log in and download the document. As we develop the password protected section, the latest version of the PDF document will always be available for download.

I would like to offer a heartfelt thank you to Naima and to Pir Zia for their enthusiastic support and direction, and to everyone who helped in the development of this beautiful resource. Pir Vilayat was certainly present and guiding us along the way!

Love To All,

Karim Updegraff

Dearest Friends- my heart is filled with Gratitude both for the spiritual encouragement we received from Pir Vilayat and for the capacity of those blessed ones whose tenacity and great efforts made this repository of his sacred teachings a reality. May I add my Thank You to the chorus of appreciation ringing out in this world and, I am sure, across the Realms of Light. Rizvana

Thank you dear friends for this incredible work. Those times with Pir Vilayat at the Abode and on the mountain in France are indelibly imprinted in my mind and heart. I fell in love with him when I first sat mesmerized at his feet in New York City in 1975, and still concentrate on him in my practices. I cannot hope but smile in my heart at the very thought and site of him. Love to all my fellow mureeds.

Brothers and Sisters:

I wish to encourage you to actively use the material found in the PVIK Inner School Section as well as the recordings found in the PV Legacy website.

It was our intention that this material be actively utilized in guiding murids, to augment teachings in classes, and to be integrated into group and individual retreats. This material is not simply a historical document but rather an active supplement to the work each of you do in guiding murids.

An important point to remember is that the summaries of the recordings are no substitute for the actual recordings of Pir Vilayat. So much of his attunement and transmission is conveyed in the sound of his voice.

I have played sections via blue tooth in guiding group retreats. I have compiled playlists for retreatants to listen to via their smart phones during the course of individual and group retreats. These examples are just a start. I would like to discover with each of you, new ways to use this material. Please post here what you have discovered. Together let’s find ways, to use these recordings of Pir Vilayat to augment our work and enrich the experience of our murids. .

Dear Naima, Mikail and Karim,

Warm Greetings from the Heart!
Thank you for this incredibly valuable resource that your meticulous and diligent work has made available to us.
I am certain that it will provide all us Guides of the Inner School with the inspiration to carry on Murshid’s and Pir Vilayat’s legacy into the future.

With love and gratitude,
Amat-un-Nur
