Once driven to the very brink
The wolves are back, or so I think
Since howls are heard deep in the night
And yelps that spell canine delight.
Tonight I’ll go under the moon
And ask the alpha ma’am a boon.
“Wolfess,” I’ll say, “I have a need
Your aid would be a gift indeed.
My friend, alas, is far away
And still I’ve thoughts I must convey.
My feet, I fear, are not like yours
They’re built for jaunts, not world tours.
And thus, madame, I seek your help.
Sleek as you are, and no mere whelp
May I prevail upon your grace
And send you to another place?”
If she agrees, you can expect
A message in wolf dialect
Via Ms. Lup, from me to you
Expressing prayers and wishes true.
She’ll bark my love into your ear
And though she’s fierce, there’s naught to fear.
She’ll have no thought of biting you
Her sole object’s to pledge anew
The bond of care that moves my core
And links us both forevermore
In friendship true as gold, and sweet
As nectar, a celestial treat
Known only to the angels high
And some few wolves, when in the sky
The full Moon sends to Earth a gleam
That luminates the wolf pack’s dream.
Before she takes her leave of you
She’ll yap the wish that, through and through,
The scent of joy will guide your snout
All through the year, day in and out!
