False FaceBook Friend Request

Dear friends,
Someone has sent out friend requests in my name. Please do not respond to these friend requests.
Warmly, Suhrawardi

Similarly from Donald Avery Sharif Graham.

  1. One way we can all help protect each other from online criminals is to adjust your settings in FaceBook. Choose “only I can see my friends.” This is VERY IMPORTANT. If your friend list is visible to the criminals, the criminal can rope your friends into friending them and then through them COULD hyjack your account.

  2. Never accept a second friend request from someone you are already friends with.

Note this is not ‘hacking’ nor hyjacking, it is Cloning and may even include the real person’s profile picture and some of their pictures - again, change your settings! If your friend list is visible to the criminals, the criminal can rope your friends into friending them and then through them COULD hyjack your account.

3… Check with that friend - NOT through this new connection.

  1. If your friend confirms that the new friend request is not them, then report the fraudulent friend request to FaceBook and block that account.

  2. If YOUR account has been cloned, the criminal has probably BLOCKED you so that you cannot report them to FB. You will need to ask your Friends to report the fraud.

Sad we must be so vigilant…
