Becoming Lucid: Mushahada as a Gateway to Lucid Dreaming and Dream Yoga

Becoming lucid during the stages of dream and dreamless sleep can be a rapid entry into a marvelous laboratory of both the gross and subtle mind to probe more deeply and gain understanding about the phenomenon of our mental activity and conscious awareness. Having a firm understanding of the basics and with dedicated practice, it is almost guaranteed one will dream lucidly in a short period of time.
During this day-long seminar, we will be introduced to Sufi mushahada meditation, a practice to cultivate our attention to increase our clarity, vividness and cognitive awareness. Engaging in mushahada during the daytime is a superb method to prepare ourselves for lucid dreaming and better understand non-lucidity during much of our waking life. The day will be devoted to an introduction about the fundamental theory of the mind and conscious awareness and the methods for practicing mushahada as an effortless path of unlearning in order to become more lucidly attentive to the mental activity arising in the vacuous space of the coarse mind. We will then segue into an introduction to lucid dreaming based upon neuroscientific secular methods, and finally dream yoga based upon a Sufi-Tibetan template for understanding mind and consciousness with Tibetan Vajrayana techniques.
Nur Richard Gale has been a representative in the Inayatiyya Order since 1985. Nur has studied with Pir Vilayat Khan, and with Tibetan Dzogchen teachers, notably H.H. Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche and Urgyen Tulku Rinpoche. He was a student of Joshu Sasaki Roshi and a graduate of the University of Chicago Divinity School in Buddhist and Chinese studies under Mircea Eliade, religion historian and colleague of Carl Jung. Nur is currently the Executive Producer of the Progressive Radio Network in Manhattan, a journalist and a producer and scriptwriter of several multi-award winning documentary films.
