Pir
Vilayat archives at the Pir Vilayat Center at the Abode
We
are acquiring donations of Pir Vilayat materials to build a
repository of his work for future studies and use at the Ceneter as
a supliment to the archives in the Inayati Order archives in
Richmond, VA. Our goal is to facilitate this material for students of
Pir Vilayat Inayat Khan and those who wish to know more about his
teachings. And have it available to those who wish to come to the
Abode for studies.
Recent acquisitions:
We
have two copies of Mikhail Horowitz’s book Illumination: Saga of
a Spiritual Master. I highly
recommend this book on the life of Pir Vilayat. Pir Zia says about
this book that it is “an inspiring portrait of my father brimming
with unique observations drawn from long years of closeness”.
Mikhail
begins the book with a quote from Pir Vilayat, “We are all on a
great journey. It’s like the horizon, the further you advance, the
further you realize that what you thought you saw recedes, and the
truth lies further and further away; you realize that you have to be
able to wreck your systems on the rock of truth, know how to walk
into unknown lands without fear, how to trust beyond all proof. You
know who is journeying; it is God who is journeying.” The Great
Journey. On Amazon you can read the first six pages. The book costs
$15.95 in paperback. Best to search for “Illumination,
the Saga of a Spiritual Master” or for “Illumination by
Mikhail Horowitz.”
Also,
the library acquired a copy of Autobiography of Fatha Engle
edited by Qahira Qalbi. Fatha
met Murshida Rabia Martin, the first murid of Hazrat Inayat Khan in
the United States, in San Francisco. Early in 1923, Hazrat Inayat
Khan arrived in the United States for a lecture tour. On Hazrat
Inayat Khan’s first day in San Francisco, Rabia arranged an
appointment with him for each of her students. During this month of
March, 1923 Fatha and other pupils of Rabia Martin were initiated by
Hazrat Inayat Khan into the Sufi Order (now the Inayati Order).
Inayat Khan invited Fatha to come with him to his home in Suresnes,
France, which he did for two years.
Pir
Vilayat quotes available: starting this spring the Pir Vilayat
Center will make available the opportunity to receive a quote from
Pir Vilayat every day in your email in box. These very short quotes
are from a selection made some years ago by Arifa Miller. They were
first published as a set of “Alchemical Wisdom” cards. They are
now available as a small booklet from Suluk Press/Omega Publications
– www.omegapub.com.
Aziza’s
memories serialized: Aziza Scott, a long time close associate,
has captured some of her memories of Pir Vilayat in a wonderful
booklet. Exerts from her booklet will be serialized on the web site.
Watch for it this summer.
