The Kinship Circle on Friday, Dec 17 (link below) will feature Jemaluddin Bill Bolling, a legendary figure in the history of food banking, as well as in our community. In 1979, while a center leader in Atlanta, he founded the Atlanta Community Food Bank, which burgeoned under his leadership into a community-based distribution network of 600+ organizations that has served as a model for food banks around the country.
Inspired by his belief that hunger is not only physical but also emotional and spiritual, Jemaluddin helped create an array of local, regional, and national alliances and institutions addressing issues of poverty, affordable housing, urban agriculture, resiliency, equity, media, and civic engagement. His gift for bringing diverse people together to help those in need has made him a national voice in addressing food security, as well as a respected convener and mentor to others.
This Kinship Circle is part of the series on Responding to the Global Ecological Crisis hosted by Shams Kairys that bear witness to threats to the natural world while fostering a spirit of positive engagement. The conversation with Jemaluddin will explore “The Food Connection” in relation to various strands of the web of life.
