An Exciting Announcement from the North American Kinship Activity
Dear Friends,
We all know, the state of the world today invites constant heartbreak. Often, at the center of this pain is something the Sufis call “the spirit of agitation.” This is a disruption or tangle in the natural flow of connection from one heart to another. When left uncontrolled this tangle results in the world as we see it today. One antidote to this disruption is to nourish a spirit of kinship that includes all beings in a peaceful, generous, and loving embrace.
In the service of this mission, the Kinship Activity of the Inayati Order, that brought you the Barn Raising, the fundraising Bike a thon from DC to the Abode, hospitality at Summer Gatherings, and the Golden Heart Award, presents two new offerings:
A new and interactive website showcases emerging initiatives of the Kinship Activity and its associates, provides descriptions of fundamental kinship values and hosts a Google Groups Forum that opens up conversations for a deeper understanding of what brings us all together.

We also offer a new and exciting iteration of the longstanding Prison Book Project :
The Prisoner Interaction Program (PIP) offers spiritual companionship to those in the criminal justice system. Many people are behind bars because of their economic status, education, and most distressing, the legacy of slavery, systemic oppression and exploitation of people of color. We do not seek to change a criminal justice system that entraps a disproportionate number of people of color, but, we do seek to help open the door to the inner life for those incarcerated. This will help prisoners to find spirit and purpose, a greater sense of harmony and balance, and a way to interact from love in whatever tradition they follow.
This program is open to all members of the Inayati Order as well as any other interested persons. It requires participation in a training program before entering into written interaction. The training and certification program will prepare participants to support and mentor prisoners in their spiritual exploration. Those completing the training will be certified to work with offenders who request mentoring. Communication will be by mail or email.
