Seth Lloyd proposes that the universe is a quantum computer seeking to compute itself. Compare to what Sufis have said for hundreds of years, that existence began because God was a hidden treasure desiring to be known. The language is very different between mysticism and science, but the underlying principle is the same. Self-organization is an inherent property of existence, and I believe life is engaged in a never-ending alchemical process, the product of which is a greater and greater capacity of what can be known, not based on a static base of information, but rather an evolution to higher states of relationship of each part to the totality in which we exist.
