Happy New Year 2025

Hello there, Mr. Alligator sir,

How good to find you in this reedy swamp.

I hear that you’re a navigator, sir;

Would you consider going for a tromp?

For there is not a person anywhere

I’d rather send to represent my heart,

Since no one has your unremitting stare,

Nor has a soul your meditative art.

My friends reside across both land and sea;

How fortunate that you can manage both.

If you would bring them love and prayers from me,

I give you, sir, my solemn honest oath

That up until the very end of time

I’ll contemplate the kindness of your deed,

And, what is more, I’ll pen a grateful rhyme

That all my friends across the world will read.

What’s that, good sir, you’ve given your assent?

I bid you, then, communicate these lines:

I pray, my friends, that you may be content,

As are, beneath the jungle’s mossy vines,

The alligators lounging on the bank,

Their hearts abuzz with understated cheer,

With scales of emerald green, and God to thank

In hymns enough to swamp the coming year!

Oh green Alligator over the sea,

With colour like Chider, we gently greet Thee.

We come from the riverbanks of the Nil

And people they call us the great crocodile.

We live there close to the great pyramides,

It´s where the old path of wisdom us leads.

Our famous relatives, are gifted with wings,

called dragons who luck and much joy to You brings.

Coloured in red, with fire and smoke,

We fly in circles, we love to make joke.

And the spear of Saint George does not hurt us at all,

cause Saint George is from same stuff, he is big and we´re small.

Let me bite in Your green alligators tail

And You bite in my red one, that´s a nice fairy-tail.

So we build a spiral. That never will end

and that spiral to all humans our blessings will send.

Yours Raqib, Germany
