It is difficult to describe how our whole culture as Indigenous people as well as Canada’s general population has been shaped by this History.
Our population is exceedingly small. The fastest growing demographic are those directly effected by this history.
I have had a difficult time articulating complex generational triggers and barriers around any kind of Education, or authority figure seeded by this reality.
I am the first in the generations of this family to finish highshcool let alone post secondary.
The shame passed down through so many generations living through this process, hiding from this process or being subject to generational effects of this process has shaped individual and collective beings in Canada entirely.
Makes me wonder about that stereo type of Canadians always appolgizing… ( which is completely true to my experience)
could that be rooted in this very collective shame ?

Thoughts came for constructive action as a collective.
Land Acknowledgement as we know has value on many levels.
As a result of reconcilliation work in Canada ( the TRC) Land Acknowledgement is standard process in Canadian business, Education, religious institutions and Government( even our army) when opening gatherings.
In the context of recent events, we could also view this as, “Human existance acknowledgement” with sentiment such as, " we see you, we are ones who support you as family visiting, in your home, we are not ones who contribute to erasing you "
I recall someone saying that Pir Vilayat would only do Hindu practices when on Hindu territory with a similar sentiment ?
Is anyone able clairify that recollection ?
He did speak of having representatives from a specific tradition offer the practice of said tradition whenever possible, in The Extacy Beyond Knowing, I think?
I wonder if we, as an organization could make conversation around Land Acknowledgment when teachers visit Canada from other coutries or are hosted by Canadian Centers on Zoom?
Host Centers here, potentialy know Indigenous Stewardship
( popularly availabe knowledge, ie. " trending" in Canada) for their Center and could potentially guide and support visiting teachers in this tradition, according to our TRC.
Face to face with community representatives is common and impactful as an added level of sincerity, moving toward relationship building, when possible.
Would folks be willing to offer thoughts or reactions to this idea for discussion ?

Dear Mu’izza,
When I first saw the story on the BBC news, I cried…Humans can be so cruel to others—and they think they are doing the right and moral thing–some schools were run by churches–
Many people around the world, some indigenous, some not, have been subjected to similar horrible situations. If the One Being wants to experience everything possible in existence to know Him/Her/Itself, we’ve fed back lots of pain and negative things “to
great big data banks in the sky”, as Pir Vilayat used to say, and then he’d give his wonderful giggle…
So the important thing is what do we do now to help those who survived, and those who suffer collective traumas from the past…
Prayers for healing, education to learn what happened, action to make sure these things never happen again, (although I think they will; look at the Nigerian schoolgirls kidnapped,and the Isis sex slaves a few years ago)…and mixed with the sorrow and grieving and outrage… gratitude for being alive.
